She is Mayumi Hashimoto's mother. She has noticed since a while, that small amounts of money were disappearing from their house and wondered if the house was being burglarized. She is worried about Mayumi when she began acting differently and tries to ask her what is wrong but Mayumi would not inform her of the situation. She even notices that Mayumi has bruises on her face. When Mayumi suddenly gets so cheerful again, she is very glad.

Etymology:

Mr. Katou[]

He is the homeroom teacher of Mayumi Hashimoto's class. He is aware of how responsible Mayumi is and thus hands over the class money that was later stolen by Aya Kuroda. Katou also doesn't believe the rumors going around about Mayumi. When he receives a photo from Aya however, showing Mayumi with an older man, he gets angry at her and says that he is very disappointed in her.

Hiroshi Takamura[]

Hiroshi Takamura (鷹村 洋志, Takamura Hiroshi) is Ryouko Takamura's father who is very worried about his daughter since she's being stalked. He tries his best to defend her, whenever he can and scares the stalker away. Hiroshi swears to kill the guy, when he sees him the next time. He contacts the police and is angered when things are going slowly. When he finds out that the detective himself is the stalker, he quickly drives to find his daughter and rescue her. When he finds her, the detective was already sent to hell and he was relieved Ryouko was safe.

Etymology:

  • The name Hiroshi means "ocean" (洋) (hiro) and "shi" (志) (ambition).

Akimoto[]

Akimoto

Detective Akimoto (秋元) is a detective working on Ryouko Takamura's case for about a year. He is unable to secure any evidence against someone to be the culprit. Akimoto does his best however to keep the family in good spirits, even though he knows their situation must be harsh and feels sorry for them. He always apologizes to Youji Takamura that the case isn't advancing. Detective Kisaragi then told Youji that Akimoto was supposedly the stalker. That was not true however and the real stalker was Detective Kisaragi and not Akimoto. Akimoto was also later killed by Kisaragi in order to hide evidence.

Shinichi Muroi[]

Shinichi Muroi (室井 伸一, Muroi Shin'ichi) is a good friend of Daisuke Iwashita and also plays baseball. Even though he isn't that talented, he still enjoys playing it a lot. He supports the team and is overall very friendly and helpful. He gets bullied by Mamoru Hanagasa, but decides to keep it a secret as it would ruin the championship if the top-player was exposed of bullying. Shinichi also tells Daisuke to not tell anyone. One time, Mamoru hits Shinichi really hard and injures him, but Daisuke is supposed to pretend it happened while playing. At home, Shinichi is in extreme pain, when he succumbs to his injuries, which was more damaging than believed. Even while dying he didn't want to expose Mamoru, but also insisted it wasn't Daisuke's fault.

Masami Sekimoto (関本 雅美, Sekimoto Masami) is the nurse of Dr. Yoshiyuki Honjou.

Even though she herself also loves animals, she has often witnessed his cruelty and disregard towards animals, but keeps quiet since she can't afford to lose the job. Masami feels sorry for Junko Kanno when her dog dies due to the doctor's laziness and Masami goes to personally apologize to Junko. She then finally reveals that fact to Junko and tries to help her to get Honjou arrested. In the end, she wasn't able to do anything before Honjou was sent to hell. After that she says goodbye to Junko as she is about to leave the city by train. Masami assures her, she will find another job at an animal hospital.

When she moved into the neighborhood, she happened to spot her neighbor Namiko Todaka having an affair through the window. Since then she was tormented and blackmailed to keep her mouth shut. She is told, that her daughters life will be made hell if she says anything. Namiko also frequently sends creepy men to her house, in order to spread the rumor that Keiko is cheating as well. Her husband didn't want to listen to her, since he was so busy. She didn't know what to do anymore and was avoided by all other neighbors. After Namiko disappeared however, she was much happier and could smile again.

Yuria Todaka (戸高 ユリア, Todaka Yuria) is the daughter of Namiko Todaka.

As Namiko's daughter, Yuria is a very spoiled and mean girl who also picks on others after their parents have been found out to be having an affair. At school, she also bullies Haruka Yasuda and tells everyone that she smells nasty. After her mom disappears and is said to have left with another man however, she herself is found to be bullied, but Haruka still defends her.

Midori Kurenai[]

Midori Kurenai (紅 翠, Kurenai Midori) is a renowned ballet dancer and teacher who never had any children of her own, so she adopted Ayaka as she saw great potential in her. Even though, she is well-meaning, Midori appears very strict and often shouts when Ayaka isn't performing well. When a big show was coming up, the training lessons were extra harsh and Ayaka was scolded a lot. Midori was sorry, but had to recast the main role. Midori punished Ayaka when she sabotaged the new actress. She does truly love Ayaka and only wants the best for her so she quickly apologized afterward and promised to help and forgive her if she admitted her mistake. But Ayaka was still mad and tried to send her to hell. But before that, Ayaka herself was banished there. After the disappearance of her adopted daughter, Midori continued to lead Kaoruko Kurushima into her footsteps and become a great actress.

Seira Yamamoto[]

Hajime Shibata has pictures of her kissing another man, that he uses to blackmail her. She is a celebrity and can't afford to have the pictures be published, so she meets with him in a Café and buys the photos for a lot of money. Seiro wants to finish the ordeal as quickly as possible and really despises Hajime. After the transition is complete, she quickly leaves, cursing Hajime.

Etymology:

  • The name Seira is written in katakana (セイラ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (水楽, 沙羅, 世依羅, 世永良, 世楽, 瀬依良, 勢良, 性裸), it could possibly mean:

Yuuko Kido (木戸 祐子, Kido Yūko) was in love with Goro Ishizu. Even though she was aware of his shady business, she continued to love him and tried to convince him to stop doing criminal activities. He didn't want to listen and when she persisted, he shoved her off a balcony. Her best friend Chie Tanuma was the only one who saw the accident. It is unknown whether Yuuko died in her coma after this episode.

Ever since she was a child, it was her dream to open up her own bakery. Thanks to her sisters help and hard work, she managed to finally get it ready. To celebrate the opening, she presents one of her original pastries on television. She was nervous but optimistic. But her former tutor stole the recipe and sold it as his own and marked Hiromi as a fraud. She was incredibly sad when her dream was destroyed and all her hard work was for nothing. Hiromi didn't like all the publicity and accusations she got and her business was almost ruined. After Yuka Kasuga avenged her, Hiromi could work in a good running bakery and was happy.

Etymology:

  • The name Hiromi means "vast, broad, wide" (弘) (hiro) and "beautiful" (美) (mi).
  • Hiromi's surname Kasuga means "spring" (春) (ka) and "sun, day" (日) (suka/suga).

Egurodo[]

This old man is the owner of the bookshop Egurodo. Hajime Shibata visited his shop, as he believed it would give him more clues about Hell Girl. Even though the owner acts very suspicious, he is actually friendly and helpful. He gives Hajime the magazine in which he reads a supposed story about Ai Enma. The owner also tells him the writer of the story and gives him the address of the magazines former editor. His parrot also often speaks for him and helps him lead the shop.

Miyabe[]

Miyabe (宮部) is the old editor in chief of the magazine "Flesh and Cherry Blossoms". Hajime Shibata talked to him about the story "Purgatory Girl" and asked whether it was Fukumoto's work. Miyabe confirmed it and even stated that the picture that was released with the story was a different one than he drew. All he could give Hajime however was an old address of Fukumoto and Miyabe was not sure if he was even still alive.

Haruki Kirino[]

Haruki Kirino (桐野 春樹, Kirino Haruki)

After his wife died, he was financially in trouble. But he wanted to do anything in order to secure that his daughter could attend university. Haruki would even go as far as to resort to criminal activity in order to keep his daughter happy. So he blackmailed the mayor with photos, showing his connections to the mafia, in order to gain money. His daughter saw those photos and asked him, what they were, but he told her to forget them and left. On the day, where the money transaction should have taken place, he mysteriously died and it was officially suicide. This has left his daughter very sad and she is convinced it was murder.

Etymology:

  • Haruki's surname Kirino means "paulownia" (桐) (kiri) and "field, wilderness" (野) (no).

Yoshiyuki Kusunoki[]

He is the mayor's son and also works as his assistant. While his father stays calm, he quickly gets angry and physical whenever his dad is accused of having had to do something with Haruki Kirino's death. Hajime Shibata also comes and questions him about it, to which he also reacts quite aggressively. He cares about his father's reputation and doesn't like people sticking their noses into their business. He argues that the mayor's downfall would ruin the town and is more important than her father's death.

Etymology:

  • The name Yoshiyuki means "righteous" (義) (yoshi) and "row, line" (行) (yuki).
  • Yoshiyuki's surname Kusunoki means "camphor tree" (楠) (kusuno) and "tree, wood" (木) (ki).

Satsuki Minato[]

Satsuki Minato (湊 五月, Minato Satsuki)

Together with her sister Fujie Minato, Satsuki grew up on a small island. When she fell in love, she left the island and gave birth to a daughter named Mina Minato. The love didn't last and she split up and returned to the island, heartbroken. Her sister put the blame on the outside world and wanted that Satsuki never left again. Officially, Satsuki jumped off a cliff, which people believed to be the result of the break up. But in truth, Fujie had captured, tied her up and brutally killed her in the basement, so she would never leave her side again.

Etymology:

  • The name Satsuki means "May" (五月).
  • Satsuki's surname Minato means "port, harbor" (湊).

Yuuji Numata[]

Yuuji Numata (沼田 祐司, Numata Yūji) is Mina Minato's boyfriend who wants to leave the island with her. He isn't very well accepted by the island community since he's from the mainland, but he still visits Mina often and keeps loving her. Recently he was in the hospital, because he was attacked by a poacher with a harpoon, while diving. It actually turned out to be Mina's aunt Fujie Minato, who doesn't want him around. He tries to convince her to flee with him, but she is hesitant. When her aunt almost kills her, he tries to stop her but is just late, when Mina banishes her to hell. He knew about the deal she made with Hell Girl and is sad for her. But now they are able to fully embrace their love together and live happily.

Etymology:

  • The name Yuuji means "help" (祐) (yuu) and "officer, boss" (司) (ji).
  • Yuuji's surname Numata means "swamp, pond, bog, lake" (沼) (numa) and "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta).

Circus Director[]

The ring master of the Happy Circus. He appears to be a happy and fun loving person to the circus audience but in actuality is incredibly short tempered and abusive. He is the father of the twin sisters Yuki and Yumi. He heavily favors Yuki as he believes that she is the better circus performer and whips Yumi if she makes any mistakes. Although he at one point was told by Yumi that Yuki was sabotaging her, he did not believe her and began his punishment of locking her in a storage crate and whipping her. He was originally believed by Hajime to be the target Ai was meant to send to Hell until Yuki was shown to be the real target. After Yuki was sent to Hell, the ring master began giving Yumi all of the special treatment he gave Yuki, as though she never existed.

Nina's Doll[]

The spirit of Nina's Doll who captured Nina's feelings and planned to exact revenge on "her" father for abandoning her. Ai informs her that her life isn't what it seems, and that she was Nina's doll who acted as her. The true Nina had a loving father who tried his very best to keep her alive but to not avail, and the doll blamed him for all of it. Upon realization, all illusions created by the doll vanish, including the mansion returning to its true rotted state. When Tsugumi found her on a chair and held her, the doll disintegrated, implying she had finally let go of her grudge.


Yukio Ujiie[]

Yukio Ujiie (氏家 幸雄, Ujiie Yukio) is the son of Kyougetsu Ujiie.

Inori is his wife and he comforts her whenever she tells him how awful her mother-in-law treats her. He usually appears very calming and comforting to his terrified wife by saying that his mother is just set in her own ways and that Inori should just do her best to ignore it. While he often comes off as being concerned and loving toward Inori, he reveals his true colors after his mother is sent to Hell and reveals he is every bit like his mother in wanting Inori to be nothing but a doll.

Etymology:

  • The name Yukio means "happiness, good luck" (幸) (yuki) and "hero, manly" (雄) (o).
  • Yukio's surname Ujiie means "Mr., family name, surname, clan" (氏) (uji) and "house, home, family, residence/residency, building, dwelling, habitation" (ie) (家).

Aki Abe[]

Aki Abe (阿部 亜紀, Abe Aki)

Her TV show surrounding magicians and tricks is very popular and her star is Esper Watanabe. When a new psychic enters the scene, she immediately drops Esper and goes to him. His idea to lure Hell Girl in front of the camera is to her liking, as it will surely bring in a lot of money. She doesn't quite believe it though. Aki also doesn't mind putting Esper through cruel torment, so he accesses Hell Link. For her, only business matters. When Hell Girl actually appears she is unable to see her. When the fight ensues, she quickly runs off the set. In the 2020 Pachinko she is seen again with a straw doll sending Giller to hell again after he was returned from hell.

  • Aki's surname Abe means "Africa, flatter, fawn upon, corner, nook, recess" (阿) (a) and "part, department, category" (部) (be).

Takashi Murai[]

Takashi Murai (村井 高志, Murai Takashi)

Hajime Shibata and Takashi are old friends and in good contact with another. After his wife died, Takashi wanted to start a new life. He stopped drinking and moved to the country with his daughter in order to start a small farm and live peacefully. However they struggled with farming and had almost no contact with the surrounding villagers. But a man named Sekine helped them and prompted him to invest money and expand his farm. Takashi was unsure but accepted. But the harvest was bad, since insects ate it away. Sekine gives him pesticides and tells him to trust him. The pesticide was fake and didn't work, which caused Takashi to drink again. He was in financial trouble and eventually died from an alcohol overdose. His daughter was left alone and found out that Sekine purposefully ruined their farm.

Etymology:

  • The name Takashi means "tall, high" (高) (taka) and "will purpose" (志) (shi).
  • Takashi's surname Murai means "town, village" (村) (mura) and "well, mine shaft, pit" (井) (i).


Mr. & Mrs. Ogawa[]

They are Ayumi Ogawa's parents and Tsugumi Shibata's grandparents and she visits them every year on the day of Ayumi's death. They always worry about her and wonder if Hajime Shibata is caring enough for her. They also visit the grave together. They have a good relationship with Tsugumi. When Tsugumi suddenly gets a vision of Hell Girl again, they're worried and ask her what's wrong. But she smiles and relieves their worries.

Minoru Higuchi[]

Minoru Higuchi (樋口 稔, Higuchi Minoru)

After his beloved wife Yoshiko died in the hospital, Minoru is convinced that it is nurse Sakuragi's fault and tries to find proof to sue the hospital. He can't find any and believes the hospital bribed the lawyers. He actually knows it's not her fault, but is simply too sad and desperate to give up. Yoshiko was everything to him and he didn't have any children. Higuchi comes to the reception to scream at the nurse and screams, that he'll send her to Hell. This led Hajime Shibata to believe that he is Ai Enma's new client and he investigates him. But it turns out that it was not him and that Minoru doesn't even know how to work a computer.

  • Minoru's surname Higuchi means "gutter, water pipe" (樋) (hi) and "mouth, entrance" (口) (kuchi/guchi).

Yamano[]

Yamano

Yamano (山野) is the owner of a small hostel in the mountains. She is very friendly, especially since she doesn't get many guests over the winter. She is kind to Tsugumi Shibata and Hajime Shibata, but can't tell them any folklore tales from the area, since she is originally from somewhere else. Yamano tells them about the Priest however and also knows where the cherry tree is located, that Tsugumi is looking for. She gladly helps them, but is somewhat puzzled by what they want.

Priest[]

He meets Hajime Shibata and Tsugumi Shibata who ask him about Hell Girl. He is unable to tell them anything at first, but offers them candy. When he notices that the candy brand has the same name as Hajime, Shibata, he remembers something. He tells them about the ritual where a seven year old girl was sacrificed for a good harvest. He hopes that he helped them. Later he is shocked, when Ai Enma blows up the temple he lived at, but he was not injured.


Sentarou Shibata[]

Sentarou (仙太郎, Sentarō)

400 years ago, he lived in the rural village along with his cousin Ai Enma. She was often bullied by other kids, since she was believed to be a demon and brought bad luck. He always punched the bullying children and defended her. Sentarou comforted Ai and promised to protect her, as he deeply loved her. When Ai was supposed to be sacrificed, he kept her hidden in the mountain forest. For six years he always brought her food and spent time with her. One night they were found out and he was forced to help bury Ai. He cried, as he had no choice. After that, he found the village to be burning, at the hands of an awakened Ai, but didn't seem to emphasize with the burning villagers. He ran away and later started a candy shop. Sentarou also built a shrine in memory of Ai, as he always regretted his actions.

Koukichi[]

Koukichi (耕吉, Kōkichi) was one of the young children who always bullied Ai Enma. He tormented Ai for supposedly being an evil spirit, since a dead butterfly landed on her hand and started to fly again. He and his friends always bullied her. Kouichi even told her to leave and never come back. Sentarou usually came and punched him back and told him to stop. He never did and was also happy when Ai was sacrificed, as he hoped the village would finally be free of haunting. He later died from being incinerated by Ai's spirit.

Etymology:

  • The name Koukichi means "tillage/till, plow, cultivate" (耕) (kou) and "lucky, good" (吉) (kichi).

Villagers[]

Since generations there is a ritual in the village, that a seven year old girl must be sacrificed in order to please the mountain gods. One time, Ai was supposed to be sacrificed, since the whole village believed her to be a demon and thus everyone shunned her. But she was secretly kept alive by Sentarou. The village didn't have good harvests and were nearly starving. When they found out Ai was still alive, they gave her the fault for the village's bad luck. She was buried alive along with her parents by all the villagers. But Ai cursed them and returned as a vengeful demon, incinerating the entire area with all its residents.


Hitomi Nakase[]

She is Maki's friend, who witnessed her being bullied and couldn't stand to see her suffer any longer. She ratted Eiko Kamishiro out to her, telling her Eiko was the one who was ruining her life. In the end, Maki realizes that the staples in her sweater came from Hitomi's stapler, and she merely observes from behind. It is unknown whether Hitomi was assisting Eiko in her "experiment" or her stapler was stolen.

Sumire Kurayoshi[]

A girl who was raped (presumably) and killed by an unnamed man, whose body was thrown into a large body of water in a suitcase. Sumire's spirit forces visions onto her sister Yayoi. Yayoi eventually learns these visions are coming from Sumire, asking her to send the pervert to hell, which Yayoi is more than willing to do, even if it means an eternity in hell. After the predator is sent to hell, the visions stop, implying Sumire can finally rest in peace. It is also implied that her body may be discovered by divers.


Mutsumi and Morio Kurayoshi[]

Yayoi and Sumire's parents. They are seen all day every day on the sidewalk, begging people to take their flyers which are about their missing daughter. Yayoi insisted to them that handing out flyers will not help find Sumire, but retracts her claim to not hurt their feelings. After Yayoi learns the truth, she chooses to not give them grief by telling them Sumire is dead, and go along with handing out more flyers.

Kei Takada[]

Kei is a boy who is Tae's childhood friend and neighbor whom Tae had a crush on. He accidentally falls to his death after Yumie cheated on him, which left Tae distraught.


Chinami Yagisawa[]

Shuuichi's girlfriend who is stuck in the hospital due to being prone to seizures. Shouki informs her that Shuuichi had murdered a man, and during the argument, Chinami has a seizure involving her having a blistering headache. After Shouki was sent to hell, she passed out off-screen. When she woke up, her memories of Shuuichi disappear, and merely asks him where her daughter is.

A girl who Leon had an immense crush on, whom his boss knew about. Chikaraya shows Leon her passed-out form, leaving him shocked. Chikaraya says he is going to have sex with her the moment he gets back to his base, and he drives off. Leon pulls the string to send him to hell, ultimately saving Izumi's life. Izumi is last seen outside, being lectured by Wanyuudo to put her trash in the right bin, and she apologizes and does as told.

A boy who is commonly picked on by Leon, but when Leon is assaulted by his boss Chikaraya, he begs him to teach him how to use a computer to access Hell-Link. After Hirohisa drugs Kiwako and lets his friend Sawazaki rape her, she sends her boyfriend to hell, which made Souta break down. Ai asks him if he would like to send Sawazaki to hell, but he tells her he doesn't want her help, and will find his own way to hell. He is last seen preparing to stab Sawazaki with a knife, where he kills him off-screen.

He is killed when he crashed into a statue and is mangled corpse his found the next morning. It is implied he was merely distracted, but it could have been suicide.

Later when Eiichi discovers surf board filled with arrow holes, he learns Toshiya is the culprit. He is knocked into a coma when Toshiya stabs him with a broken bottle. In the last episode of season 2, it is revealed he survived and is now living happily with his son.

The daughter of Kuniji and Harumi. For years, the abuse of her mother was hidden from her, and upon visiting her in the hospital, discovered her injuries. Harumi admits that he was abusing her and overworking her the whole time. Later, when two men attempt to rape her, she is saved by Wanyuudou by nearly running the men over. When she runs back to her father, she overhears him speaking with the men and learns that he sent them. When attempting to send her father to hell that Midnight, Ai enters and informs her there is no need to do that, as someone already has a contract on him. After Harumi sends him to hell, they are last seen packing boxes.

Makio Yamamoto is the campaign manager in the district where the Kanno family is represented. He is only too happy to accept the help of Kuniji and Yuriko, not to say that he just shamelessly takes advantage of their efforts. He's probably not even concerned with the election campaign itself and the possible victory of Masaharu Date, but that he's presented in a particularly good light. So he can't stand it when he looks bad or one of his helpers fails in his task.

Osamu was a man who Ran was planning to send to hell but ends up being attached to Hone Onna who she refers to as "Ms. Doll." She wanted to kill him because he pretended to like her, but he used her to betray his boss. Ran eventually teams with Matsu to manipulate him into draining his bank account while he was drunk. but when he became sober, the overwhelming stress envelops him. He kills himself, thus breaking Ran's contract with Ai.

The daughter Honami and Hetarou. Unbeknownst to her, her father was abusive to her mother, but it happened because she could develop memories. In present day, she hears several out-of-context hints that she killed him, and planned to send her to hell. Upon overhearing the devastating conversation between Honami and her grandmother, she runs away. When on a bridge, she threatens to pull the string, but Honami informs her that even if she didn't, her wish would come true, and tells her the truth. To avoid Nene an eternity in hell, Honami jumps off a bridge, and Nene witnesses her mutilation by the traffic below. She is last seen walking through a path, looking depressed, and her custody is handed to her grandmother.

She tells Honami that she wants her son back despite his behavior, but Nene overhears their conversation and runs off. After her daughter-in-law's suicide, she receives full custody of her granddaughter.

The daughter of Kouhei and Michiyo. After her paralyzed mother comes to visit, Rina is treated like a slave which prompts her to contact Ai. Her father later confesses that Michiyo is not her birth mother due to her infertility, and that she encouraged him make her with a different woman. Rina has a flashback involving her handing Rina a trinket. When searching for her straw doll, she is unable to find it, and Ai tells her that it no longer belongs to her. She realizes that her father took it and ran to the first place she suspected they'd be at. When Rina arrived, she saw Michiyo's empty wheelchair with the same trinket she gave her as a girl.
